Fireworks were set off in the early hours of Sunday outside a Liverpool hotel where Brentford FC players were staying ahead of their clash with Everton, reports say.
The Merseyside team, managed by Frank Lampard, are desperate to secure Premier League survival as they are currently in 16th place in the table – close to the relegation zone.
Brentford are in 13th spot and already assured of top-flight football next season.
Flares were also let off by fans outside the stadium before the game.
Video showed fireworks lighting up the sky outside the Innside Hotel in Liverpool city centre at around 3.30am as the Brentford team slept inside having made the journey to face the Toffees at Goodison Park.
Footage appeared to show a man igniting the fireworks from a grass embankment close to the hotel, according to the Liverpool Echo.
There were similar scenes prior to Everton’s Chelsea clash earlier this month as fireworks were set off outside the Blues team’s hotel in the early hours of matchday.
Everton went on to win that game 1-0.
The Echo reported that a Brentford FC spokesperson confirmed fireworks were set off outside the team hotel early on Sunday morning.
Merseyside Police have been approached for comment.
