4 Tips to Maintain a Youthful and Radiant Complexion – Scooptimes

While aging is a natural process that we’re all going to inevitably go through, the last thing anyone wants is to look much older than they are. This isn’t to say that aging and looking older is bad, but many factors in our daily lives could accelerate these signs of premature aging and damage our skin without our knowing about it.

Many of us want to slow down these signs of aging as much as possible, and it can be done with the right skincare routine and lifestyle changes. Here are some tips and tricks that can help you stay youthful and glowing for as long as possible.

Never Forget Your Sunscreen

Many skincare professionals have repeatedly said that sun damage contributes to over 90% of signs of premature skin aging. In case you weren’t aware of it, the sun is made up of ultraviolet rays that can cause some serious damage to your skin, and these ultraviolet rays come in both UVA and UVB rays that can harm your skin in different ways.

From the loss of volume and elasticity to pigmentation issues and skin irritation, the sun is not your friend when it comes to staying youthful for longer, and that’s why you must never leave your home without putting on a generous layer of sunscreen. Look for one with at least SPF 30 and broad spectrum coverage to ensure that you’re getting the best protection, and make sure to reapply every two hours.

Stay Hydrated

People often tell you to drink more water to have better looking skin, but this isn’t the only way that you can provide your skin with some much needed moisture. You can also incorporate hydrating ingredients and products into your skincare routine, and this can protect your skin and hold onto your radiant complexion in the long run.

When you go outside, your skin is exposed to a lot of dirt and impurities like dust, pollution, free radicals, and much more. Adequate hydration both inside and out will help your skin remain much more resilient against these contaminants, while also helping it flush away any toxins and carry nutrients to the skin’s cells.

Exfoliate Regularly

You might have noticed that your skin gets duller and grayer as you age. This is actually because your natural cell turnover—the renewal process of your skin shedding away the dead skin cells—slows down the older you get, which means that there’s just that layer of dead skin cells sitting on the surface of your face and preventing you from achieving a brighter appearance.

Regular exfoliation will help you slough away these dead skin cells and stimulate your cellular turnover, but you must do it properly. That means only doing it a few times a week with chemical exfoliants, which are much gentler and less damaging than physical exfoliants tend to be.

Make Better Lifestyle Choices

Your skincare routine isn’t enough to ward off the signs of premature aging as there are a few lifestyle changes that you can also implement in your daily routine. Regularly working out will not only help improve the blood circulation and delivery of nutrients and oxygen to your face but also help you sweat out any dirt and debris that may have accumulated inside your pores.

Staying away from unhealthy habits like smoking and alcohol intake can also go a long way and retaining healthier skin, and managing your stress levels will help prevent any hormonal imbalances that could negatively affect your skin’s overall health. Finally, a healthier diet and regular water intake will also give your skin everything it needs to look its best.
