The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have thanked the public for a “fantastic” Platinum Jubilee weekend, saying they and their family had an incredible time, “especially Louis”.

Writing on Twitter, Prince William and Kate said seeing the nation come together with family, friends and loved ones was “extremely special”.

They added: “Thank you to everyone who turned out to show their gratitude to The Queen and her inspiring 70 years of leadership.

“From the crowds on the Mall to communities hosting street parties up and down the country, we hope you had a weekend to remember.”

The royal pair also did not pass up a moment to poke gentle fun at their youngest son’s antics over the weekend, which so captured the public’s attention and joy.

Sharing a black and white picture of Louis alongside his father, they quipped: “We all had an incredible time, especially Louis…”

The youngest Cambridge child, four, kept crowds entertained all weekend with a series of interesting expressions, covering his face with his hands at the pageant and waving to onlookers during the Red Arrows flypast.

Standing next to the Queen on the Buckingham Palace balcony on Thursday, he held his hands up to his temples at one point as he looked grumpily at the planes flying over.

He then covered his ears and looked as if he was screaming.

Louis, who is fifth in line to the throne, then reprised his performance in the royal box at the Jubilee pageant, to the delight of those watching on TV and online.
