A man who died after being pulled from the River Thames following a police Tasering on Chelsea Bridge has been named as Oladeji Adeyemi Omishore.

Sky News confirmed his identity with neighbours.

Police were called to Chelsea Bridge Road, in west London, on Saturday morning after receiving reports that a man was armed with a screwdriver and shouting.

The man was challenged by officers on the bridge and Tasered, but the Met Police said this “did not enable the officers to safely detain him”.

He then jumped into the river and was rescued by the RNLI and taken to hospital, but later died.

A watchdog is appealing for witnesses after the man’s death.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating the interaction between two Metropolitan Police officers and the 41-year-old man.

Social media footage showed one of the officers using a Taser on him a number of times, before the man, who lived locally, ran to the edge of Chelsea Bridge and appeared to jump over the railing shortly after 9am on Saturday.
