UK weather: Yellow warnings for wind and rain issued as Storm Claudio lingers | UK News

Three yellow weather warnings are in place today, with rain and wind expected to linger as the effects of Storm Claudio continue to batter parts of the UK.

The French storm brought plenty of wind and rain to the country on Tuesday, with the Met Office warning much of the same continues to be expected.

In southern Scotland, a yellow warning for rain is in force from 10am until 6pm.

Residents are braced for heavy downpours, which may cause travel disruption and potential flooding in a few places.

Another yellow warning for rain is in place across Northern Ireland from 8am until 3pm, with people warned that some interruption to power supplies and other services is likely.

Chief meteorologist Neil Armstrong said: “Thirty to 40mm of rain is expected to fall in some areas, and where it falls over ground already wet from recent rainfall as well as fallen leaves there may be spray and flooding on the roads as well as travel delays.”

A final yellow warning for wind has been announced for parts of northern England and Wales from 7am until 10pm.

The blustery conditions are expected to affect Irish Sea coastal areas as well, with gusts reaching up to 65mph, according to the Met Office.

People have been advised that the strong winds could cause some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport.

Mr Armstrong added: “Much of the UK can expect a spell of strong southerly winds on Wednesday, but the warning area highlights where gusts of up to 65mph will be and therefore where there are likely to be some travel delays.”

The Met Office also warns that a short-term loss of power is a possibility, and some sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by large waves.

On Tuesday, gusts of 61mph were recorded in Langdon Bay, Kent, while 59mph winds were recorded at Heathrow.
