The weather in Seattle isn’t that bad. It also isn’t great (except for 3 months in the summer, which is exceptional). The lack of sunlight is a major issue for me. It’s under 50% possible sunlight for at least half the year there.

Why is it so hot? The region is experiencing what is called a heat dome. A giant zone of high pressure over the region is compressing the air and generating heat underneath it. In addition, the winds are coming from the East, bringing in inland heat.

1. Winters are too cold, and summers are too hot. Experiencing all four seasons comes at a cost. Washingtonians pretty much hate life from November to March, and if they live in the land of no air conditioning (Western Washington), they hate it again in July.
Is Seattle safe at night? Yes and no. While no big city is perfectly safe after dark, only the Downtown area and parks in Seattle can become a bit sketchy after dark. Avoid walking around by yourself and either stick with a larger group of friends, or hop in a taxi to get back to your place.
When it comes to which city is better to live in, it’s a personal preference. But when it comes to cost of living and crowds, Portland is the winner. If you live city living and prefer that environment, Seattle is better. If you like green space and outdoor activities, Portland is superior.
