While active, Heroes will gain XP, allowing them to access Abilities that improve their bonuses each time they level up to max level 20 (25 in Disharmony).

Heroes gain XP gradually, and whenever the system or fleet they’re assigned to does something (builds an improvement, fights an enemy fleet, etc). At certain XP thresholds they level up, allowing you to assign a point to one of their skills. Some skills also increase in power according to the Hero’s level.

Here’s how to disable or change the score turn limit for those of you who want it. Change “125” to any number you want and that will be the new turn limit. Set it to like “9999” for “unlimited” turns. Don’t go crazy, there’s probably a variable limit, so don’t try like 9 trillion.

There is no point in disabling the academy and playing with Awakening dlc on. The two things that are added are Nakalim and Academy, with Nakalim’s gameplay feature being tied to said Academy. If you want to play against Nakalim but want to turn of the Academy, well, you can’t as Nakalim need Academy.

All the factions are great, but the Sophons, United Empire and Lumeris would be my top picks for beginners.

A good start to any first colony is building Cerebral Reality and Drone Networks. These offer food, industry, and dust bonuses for cheap upkeep, all of which are sorely needed in the early game.

Endless Space 2 features a similar difficulty system to most other Amplitude 4x games, and to several other entrants in the 4x genre. The sole things that are modified are a series of economic bonuses – the AI does not receive any other freebies.

The dlc’s add a lot of additional content to the game such as new factions, quests & mechanics. The Dlc’s are a worth every penny. I am not sure by what you mean by long they take to finish? As I mentioned above that they add new content so it does not add more game time per say.

On endless speed Riftborn are the strongest, by far. On normal speed it’s a toss up between Vodyani and Riftborn. Weakest are Cravers, for about 10-20 turns in a system they match the FIDS output of Riftborn/Vodyani, then they drop to 50% below everyone else.

The great thing about ES2 is how vastly different each race plays, which can be a bit rough for new players I think. Compared to say Civ 6, where the differences are mostly numerical and quite simple in comparison. I would suggest civilization first, but if you got some extra time, go for it.

A lot. Even after you’ve played it for like 300 hours you’re still going to end up finding things or situations you’re not sure about or what it’s going to do. It shouldn’t take you too long to roughly get the hang of it but it’s a pretty deeply detailed game and sometimes ignoring those details can be disastrous.

We like to kid ourselves, but Terran has always been the hardest race to play. This is evident in how Terrans are pushed to lower levels of the ladder and how Terrans are so rare at the tournament level.

Sophons are arguably the best faction in the game for a first playthrough, as they have no truly unique features, but their main trait – increasing research speed for any technology not researched by anyone else – is very straightforward and very easy to utilize.
