A car crashed into a £1.2m house owned by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in the early hours of Monday.

Neighbours described a sound like “thunder” as the Vauxhall Astra ploughed into the front garden of the south London property at about 1am.

It was towed away around 5pm and left debris strewn on the driveway, damage to hedges, a tree and a knocked-down pillar.

The driver suffered minor injuries in the incident in Camberwell but didn’t need to go to hospital, said police, who added that “no offences were identified”.

Mr Johnson bought the four-bed house with Carrie Johnson for £1.2m in July 2019, according to Land Registry documents.

The Times said a buy-to-let mortgage was used to pay for it and that it was being renovated.

The register of MPs’ interests says the PM has a rental income of at least £10,000 per year.
