Champions League final chaos: John Bishop and Damien Lewis left stranded in Paris after flight is delayed for six hours | World News

Comedian John Bishop and actor Damien Lewis revealed they were stranded on a plane for six hours after travelling to Paris to watch the Champions League final.

Liverpool lost to Real Madrid 1-0 at the Stade de France, just north of the city, on Saturday evening.

The game was overshadowed by the policing at the match when people were tear-gassed and involved in clashes with authorities.

However, the British duo had a slightly different experience after sharing a string of tweets about how their flight home from the match was delayed for more than six hours.

Lewis started the thread of posts by sharing: “With @johnbishop100 on our way home from Paris. Top lad. YNWA.”

They also posed for a selfie together while they were onboard the flight.

But five hours later, the pair were back on social media to admit they were still stuck on the tarmac

Bishop wrote: “I managed to get a seat on a club charter flight from Paris. This felt like a win when I got on with @lewis_damian. More than five hours later and we have not moved. I wish I had got the train.”

An hour later, the flight had still not taken off.

Lewis, who is known for his roles in Homeland and Billions, wrote: “Make that six hours me and ⁦@JohnBishop100 day two in the Big Brother House.”

The pair then shared a snap of them together in the cockpit.

Lewis said: “S’alright ⁦ @JohnBishop100 and me have had an idea.”

Later on, Bishop went on condemn the actions of French authorities at the match on Twitter.

He said: “At the gate in Paris – been here for 25 minutes and nobody has been allowed in – disgraceful treatment of fans who are displaying an unbelievable level of patience.”

Tear gas thrown at Liverpool fans

Shambolic scenes took place outside the ground after supporters with tickets were made to wait in huge queues to get into the stadium, before French police used tear gas.

Some were kept out waiting outside for a large part of the first half and fans spoke of officers pointing guns at them after the game.

A statement from Prefecture de Police, the Parisian police force, said queues formed after fans arrived without tickets.

However, Liverpool later released a statement calling for a thorough investigation into events outside the ground.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “Our consular staff are supporting individuals who have been affected by the events in Paris, and are in touch with local authorities.”
