Crawley Town FC manager John Yems has been sacked following allegations that he used discriminatory language and behaviour against his own players.
Sky Sports understands that seven footballers took their complaints to the Professional Footballer’s Association (PFA), who are investigating – the Football Association (FA) and the club’s new American owners have also started investigations.
A former Crawley player alleged to Sky that the club’s changing room was segregated on racial grounds as players from ethnic minorities were made to change separately from their white teammates.
The club was recently bought by American investors who suspended Mr Yems 12 days ago, when they discovered the allegations – all of which are denied by Mr Yems.
Co-chairman of Crawley Town FC Preston Johnson said: “We’re looking forward to the next era of Crawley Town Football Club.
“We have an opportunity to build on more than 125 years of rich history and take this club to the next level.
“We’re eager to partner with our players and supporters as we build a team and community that Red Devils fans can continue to be proud of – both on and off the pitch.”
Assistant manager Lewis Young will continue to serve as interim manager for the remainder of the current season.
On whether they are still investigating the allegations in the wake of Mr Yems’ departure, Crawley Town FC said:
“Our investigation has concluded as it pertains to our evaluation of John Yems’ employment status with the club; however, we are continuing to coordinate and work in cooperation with The FA as it continues in its investigation.”
An FA spokesperson has told Sky Sports News: “We are aware of allegations made against Crawley Town Manager John Yems.
“We are treating the allegations extremely seriously and are currently conducting an investigation into them. We cannot comment further until that has concluded.”
