A Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with three further counts of rape, bringing a total of 44 charges against him, the Crown Prosecution Service said.
David Carrick, 47, was already accused of offences against 11 victims including rape, coercive and controlling behaviour and sexual assault.
Hertfordshire Constabulary has now been authorised to charge him with three additional rape counts relating to one new complainant which are alleged to have taken place between 2008 and 2009.
The other offences, which include 21 counts of rape, are alleged to have taken place between 2003 and 2020.
Carrick was initially arrested by Hertfordshire Constabulary in October 2021 and was immediately suspended.
Prior to his suspension, he was attached to the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command.
The Met said: “We recognise that these are extremely serious and concerning allegations. Referrals have been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct as the investigation has progressed.”
Carrick will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court over the new charges at 10am on Friday 13 May.
