The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are in Scotland for a two-day visit, with engagements focusing on mental health.

The trip is part of a UK-wide tour for the couple to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this year.

The visit comes after Prince William and Prince Charles were jointly given the authority to open Parliament on behalf of the Queen yesterday, after she pulled out of the event due to mobility problems.

The duke and duchess arrived in Glasgow and visited a project operated by housing group, The Wheatley Group, to see the group’s work for vulnerable people and those at risk of homelessness.

William and Kate, known as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn in Scotland, spoke with service users who have benefitted from access to employment support to help mitigate the impact of poverty.

They will also visit a new-build property in the Kennishead area to hear about the importance of secure housing.

Prince William and Kate visited St John’s Primary School in Glasgow to take part in a ‘Roots of Empathy Session’ with children.

The pair are also set to visit Glasgow University, to discuss mental health with staff and students before hearing about the work being done by researchers at the school of psychology and neuroscience.
