Police have carried out two controlled explosions in Westminster following reports of a suspicious vehicle.

Earlier, officers set up a cordon and closed roads near Parliament Square.

The Queen Elizabeth II Centre and Westminster School were evacuated and Westminster underground station was closed.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police said two controlled explosions were carried out.

At around 5pm the incident was stood down and all roads were reopened and the cordon lifted.
