5 cricketers who were banned for doping – Scooptimes

Cricket is a gentleman’s game but there are few bad players who have done bad things in cricket. Here we take a look at 5 cricketers who were banned for doping.

Shoiab Akthar (Pakistan)

THe fast bowler Shoiab Akthar was banned by ICC for taking banned substance nandrolone in 2006. Later, he was dropped from the squad for Champions Trophy 2006. In 2003 World Cup, he bowled a ball at a speed of 161.3 km/h against England.

Shane Warne (Australia)

The spin king Shane Warne failed in a test before 2003 World Cup. He said that he was not taken any drugs and that pill was given by his mother. He was banned for 12 months and was replaced by Brad Hogg. Warne was the star player for Australia in 1999 World Cup as he won Man-of-the-match award in both semi-final and final match.

Pradeep Sangwan (India)

The left-arm seamer who played the U19 World Cup under Virat Kohli in Malaysia, made his IPL debut for KKR. In 2013, he was accused of using a banned substance named Stanozolol an anabolic steroid, citing the reason to lose some pounds. He had to serve an 18-month ban. He has played for Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Lions.

Yasir Shah (Pakistan)

ICC was banned Pakistan’s spin wizard Yasir Shah for taking banned particle Chlortalidone in 2015. He admits himself by saying he took that tablet from wife. He was banned for 3 years and lifted the ban on March 27, 2016. Yasir Shah has been the star player for Pakistan since his debut. His 10-wicket haul at Lords is one of the best performance of him.

Andre Russell (West Indies)

West Indies dashing all-rounder Andre Russel faced 1 year for not attending three consecutive dope tests. The tests were in January 2015 and June 2015. According to laws, 3 missing dope tests is equivalent to a failed test. Now, Cricket fans from around the world will miss Russell’s presence in T20 leagues.
