West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has been banned from the cricket for one year for violating doping whereabouts. He failed to file his whereabouts for three doping tests, and now finds himself out of the game till January 2018.
Hugh Faulkner, Dr Marjorie Vassell and Dixeth Palmer are announced this on Jan 31st. According to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)’s rules, the 12-month ban period is equal to failing a dope test. Patrick Foster, the Andre Russell’s lawyer might appeal for the ban.
The period of ban ranges from 31st January 2017 to 30th January 2018. The Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADC) put charges against Russell in March 2016 for not filing in his whereabouts on January 1, and twice in July in 2015.
The IPL and CT will miss the Russell’s presence. He has played 51 ODIs and 42 T20I for West Indies but has not been a regular player for ODI format. He last played a ODI game was in 2015 while his last T20I was against India in August 2016. He has played just one Test match in his career.
