Australia elections: Opposition Labor set to win, ousting Scott Morrison’s ruling conservatives, according to projections | World News

[ad_1]

Australia’s opposition Labor Party is set to win power for the first time since 2007, according to latest projections in the country’s general election.

The party’s leader, Anthony Albanese, is likely to become prime minister after Scott Morrison’s conservative Liberal Party failed to win the minimum 76 seats needed for a majority in the 151-seat parliament, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation predicts.

Labor is expected to win more than 70 seats, but may have to rely on the support of smaller independent parties, including the Greens, to form a government.
