Two brothers have admitted killing British journalist Dom Phillips and his companion Bruno Pereira in the Amazon rainforest, it has been reported.
Mr Phillips and Mr Pereira, a Brazilian indigenous expert, went missing more than a week ago on a remote stretch of the Itaquai River.
Band News said on Wednesday Amarildo da Costa de Oliveira and his brother Oseney da Costa de Oliveira have admitted they killed them.
Band has also reported federal police said the suspects allegedly dismembered the bodies, set them on fire and threw them in a ditch.
During his confession, Oseney Oliveira apparently took police to the scene.
Mr Phillips, 57, and Mr Pereira, 41, were last seen on 5 June near the entrance of the Javari Valley Indigenous Territory, which borders Peru and Colombia.
Torture claims
The brothers, both 41-year-old fishermen, are being held at the police station in Atalaia do Norte, the nearest town.
Amarildo Oliveira pulled a rifle on Mr Phillips and Mr Pereira the day before they disappeared, according to indigenous people who were with them.
However, he denies doing anything wrong and claims military police tortured him to get a confession, his family has said.
Mr Phillips has reported on Brazil for more than 15 years for newspapers including The Guardian, the Washington Post, the New York Times and the Financial Times.
