Last night Sri Lanka faced strongest team in their group West Indies at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It was a important match for Sri Lanka as a win here would have made sure to semi-finals.
Sri Lanka batted first and managed to score only 118 runs in 20 overs. West Indies’ spinners Samuel Badree and Sulieman Benn were bowled beautifully on that pitch.
Badree picked up 3/12 in his four overs. West Indies started to chase with their style. Andre Fletcher smashing an unbeaten 84 even as Chris Gayle was forced to watch his team’s chase from the dressing room with a hamstring strain. Responding to shouts of “we want Gayle” the RCB star chose to leave his ice bag and step out to bat at the fall of Ramdin’s wicket, only to be informed by the umpire that he had to sit out of the batting innings for the duration that he had spent outside the field while fielding.
