Glenn Maxwell was born on 14 October 1988 in Kew, Melbourne, Australia. His father Neil Maxwell, mother Joy Maxwell and he has a brother – Daniel Maxwell.
Maxwell was born in Kew, Victoria, and played his junior cricket for South Belgrave CC. He started his cricket as a fast bowler before becoming an off-spinner. For his unorthodox shot, media gave him a nickname ‘The BigShow’. But he prefers ‘Maxi’.
– In 2009, Maxwell was joined Victoria. When Andrew McDonald was injured, he was called into FDR squad.
– Maxwell was selected to play for the Australian Institute of Sports in the 2010 Emerging Players Tournament. He scored 63 against India in the semi-final.
– His 19 ball quick-fire fifty against Tasmania in Ryobi Cup was his career turning point.
– Glenn Maxwell scored 59(23) against India and 110(52) against South Africa in the 2011 Emerging Players Tournament.
– Maxwell was first signed by the Delhi Daredevils in 2012 as a replacement player for Travis Birt who withdrew from the squad. He played 2 games for Delhi Daredevils.
– Maxwell made his debut for Australia against Afghanistan in a One Day International in the United Arab Emirates in 2012.
– On March 2013, he made his Test debut against India in the second Test at Hyderabad. He failed to perform with the bat in both 1st and 2nd innings as he scored just 13 and 8 runs. But, he took 4 wickets with the ball.
– Maxwell was the most expensive player as Mumbai Indians bought him for 1 million US dollars at the IPL 2013 Auctions.
– In 2014 IPL, he was bought by Kings XI Punjab for 6 crores. He was in form of his life during IPL 2014. In 2014 IPL, he scored 552 runs in 16 games.
– He was retained by Kings XI Punjab for 2015 IPL Season. He failed to impress in that season, not making a score higher than 43.
– Maxwell again made a comeback against India on 16 March 2017 and scored his maiden Test century scoring 104 off 185 balls.
– He became the second Australian player after Shane Watson to score centuries in all formats of cricket.
