India vs New Zealand ODI series – Statistical Analysis – Scooptimes

New Zealand are better limited over format side than a Test side and their performance in ODI proves why they are better in ODIs. The visitors were failed to win a single Test match against India but they were managed to win 2 matches in ODI series. A massive 190-run win in the fifth ODI in Vizag helped India to clinch the series by 3-2. Here are a few statistical landmarks and milestone achieved in the ODI series.

1st ODI:

Amit Mishra became the fastest Indian spinner to take 50 wickets in ODI and overall fourth fastest Indian bowler to do this. He took 4936 days to complete 50 ODI wickets which is most by any bowler.

Tom Latham became the 10th batsmen to carryout his bat throughout a ODI innings and first New Zealand player to do this. He also became the first player to carry his bat against India in ODIs.

Tim Southee became the first New Zealand player to score a 50 batting at No.10 in ODIs and he also became the eight New Zealand player to score 50 in his 100th ODI match. The other seven are Nathan Astle, Chris Cairns, Martin Crowe, Richard Hadlee, Kyle Mills, Ken Rutherford and Scott Styris.

India’s 6 wicket win in the first ODI was their 108th ODI win under Ms Dhoni’s captaincy. Now he become the second most successful captain of all time, Australia’s Ricky Ponting has 165 wins from 208 ODIs.

Hardik Pandya won the man of the match award in his ODI debut, becoming fourth Indian to win the MOM award in ODI debut. The other three are Sandeep Patil, Mohit Sharma and KL Rahul.

2nd ODI:

Rohit Sharma played his 150th ODI match, becoming 19th Indian player to achieve this feat in ODIs.

Kane Williamson scored match winning 118 runs to level the series. This is the highest score by a New Zealand captain against India in ODI.

India lost this match by just six runs and became a first team to lost 400 matches in ODIs.

This was also their New Zealand’s first win in India after 13 years.

3rd ODI:

Ms Dhoni became the third wicket-keeper to score 9000 runs in ODI, the other two are Kumar Sangakkara and Adam Gilchrist. He also became the fastest to reach 9k runs in ODI, he did this in his 244th innings. He also became the first cricketer to reach 9000 runs with an average of 50+ in ODIs.

When Dhoni scored 80 runs, he smashed 3 sixes and has most sixes by an Indian. Dhoni has now 197 sixes in 246 ODIs, he surpassed Sachin’s record of most sixes by an Indian in ODIs. He is currently at the 5th place of all-time list, Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi has 351 sixes.

Dhoni also surpassed Ricky Ponting’s most sixes in ODI as captain. Ponting had 123 sixes from 230 ODIs, Dhoni has now 126 sixes from 199 ODIs.

Virat Kohli became the fastest player to score 3000 ODI runs in home by surpassing Ganguly’s 3000 runs from 70 innings. Virat Kohli achieved this milestone in his 63rd inning.

Ms Dhoni became the first wicket-keeper to complete 150 stumpings in international cricket. Kumar Sangakkara is at second spot in this list with 139 wickets.

4th ODI:

Martin Guptill won his 24th MOM award in International cricket for his brilliant winning knock and third New Zealand player to win most Man of the Match awards. Nathan Astle (26) and Daniel Vettori (25) are the only two ahead of him in this list.

This was the first time, India lost an ODI match at Ranchi. Before that match, India had played two matches and won both of them.

5th ODI:

Amit Mishra picked up 15 wickets in this series which is most by any bowler against New Zealand.

India bundled New Zealand for just 79 innings, New Zealand’s 79 was their fifth lowest in ODIs and lowest against India.

Virat Kohli has scored 358 runs in this series, this is the fourth time he has scored more than 300 runs in a bilateral ODI series. Virat’s 358 is also the second highest by any player in a bilateral ODI series between India and New Zealand. Kane Williamson leading this with 361 runs at an average of 72.20, he did this when India toured New Zealand in 2013-14.
