The Delhi Daredevils’ smashing all-rounder JP Duminy has withdrawn from the upcoming season of Indian Premier League due to some personal reasons. In past, he was played for Deccan Chargers, Mumbai Indians and Deccan Chargers. He was bought for 220 lakhs by Delhi Daredevils franchise in IPL Auction 2014.
Duminy was appointed as the captain of Delhi Daredevils franchise in IPL 2015. He scored 191 runs in the last edition of IPL in 10 he played. The dashing all-rounder from South Africa expressed his feeling while announcing this decision but he hopes to be part of the Delhi franchise again.
“It has been a very difficult decision for me to make, but it was for purely personal reasons. I’m grateful for the support and understanding from the franchise. It has been an absolute privilege to have played for and led a talented mix of players. I certainly hope to play a part for the franchise in the near future,” Duminy said.
The Chief Executive of Delhi Daredevils franchise, Hemant Dua said that its disappointing to not have JP Duminy in the squad for the league and they will now look for an all-rounder to replace.
“We respect JP’s decision,” Dua said. “We are naturally very disappointed to not have JP in our midst this year, but as a franchise, we clearly understand his position. At this stage, we can only confirm that we will look for a replacement at an appropriate time.”
JP Duminy is the second player to withdraw from the league. Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc was the first player to withdraw from the league ahead of the IPL Auction. Delhi Daredevils will play their first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 8 at Bengaluru.
