He was born on November 11, 1963 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. He was quite active in gymnastics even before entering into the cinema field. Ponnambalam has become a national high-jump champion in 1984.
He has six sisters and with the help of his sisters, he entered into the cinema field as a stuntman. He made his acting debut as an extra fighter from ‘Shankar Guru’ in 1987. Ponnambalam featured in two more movies – Per Sollum Pillai and Vairakkiyam on the same year.
He came to limelight after played a villain role in ‘Walter Vetrivel’ which is a blockbuster movie. After his stellar performance in Walter Vetrivel, he received more calls from various directors. He has a nickname of ‘Spare Parts’ Ponnambalam because he never injured his body during stunts. Ponnambalam joined ‘All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’ in the year 2011.
