She was born on 6 October in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. She completed her schooling at AMM Matriculation Hr. Sec. School in the same city. Ramya studied college in Women’s Christian College in Chennai.
Ramya worked as a Music Manager at Radio City before entering into to music industry. She started her career in music as a playback singer.
