Steve Smith was born on 2 June 1989 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Smith was born to Australian father and English mother.
He was studied in Menai High School. He dropped out of the Higher School Certificate (HSC) at the age of 17 to play cricket.
Then he started to play Junior cricket. Steven’s first century was in the 1998/99 season at Casuarina Oval, Alfords Point, 124 not out. He scored a total of 6 centuries with a highest score of 141 not out as a member of the 14As in the 2002–03 season.
Smith made his first class debut for New South Wales against Western Australia and he scored 33 runs in his first innings as he did not get chance to bat in 2nd innings.
