Steve Smith was born on 2 June 1989 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Smith was born to Australian father and English mother.
He was studied in Menai High School. He dropped out of the Higher School Certificate (HSC) at the age of 17 to play cricket.
Then he started to play Junior cricket. Steven’s first century was in the 1998/99 season at Casuarina Oval, Alfords Point, 124 not out. He scored a total of 6 centuries with a highest score of 141 not out as a member of the 14As in the 2002–03 season.
Smith made his first class debut for New South Wales against Western Australia and he scored 33 runs in his first innings as he did not get chance to bat in 2nd innings.
– He was leading wicket-taker in the 2008 KFC Big Bash Tournament. He took 9 wickets with the best figure of 4/15 in the tournament.
– In the final game against Trinidad and Tobago in 2009 Champions League, Steve Smith scored 33 runs and took 2 wickets.
– Smith made his T20I debut against Pakistan in February 2010. In the same month, he played his ODI debut against West Indies.
– He holds the record for the most consecutive 50+ scores in World Cup history with 5 such scores in the 2015 Cricket World Cup
– In 2010, he was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore. Later in 2011, Kochi Tuskers Kerala bought him for IPL 2011 season. But he was not available to play for KTK due to injury.
– Ahead of 2012 IPL, Pune Warriors India bought him. He won MOM award in his first game for Pune Warriors India.
– In 2017, he replaced Dhoni as captain for Rising Pune Supergiant. He led his team to a final of IPL 10.
– He reached the No.1 spot in ICC Test Rankings for batsmen.
– On 23 December 2015, Smith was awarded the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for being named the ICC Cricketer of the Year as well as Test Cricketer of the Year for the 2014–15 season.
– In 2015, he won the Allan Border Medal for the best player in Australian Cricket.
