Top 10 most expensive players in IPL Auction 2016 – Scooptimes

Vivo IPL Auction 2016 took place in Bengaluru on February 6, 2016. It witnessed 351 players under the hammer, it includes 230 Indian players and 121 overseas players.

Shane Watson appeared at a base rate of 2 crore and was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for 9.5 crores. Recently, he scored a ton in T20 match vs India as a captain.

Yuvraj Singh sold out for 7 crore to Sun Risers Hyderabad, recently he made a comeback to Team India and played brilliantly in the third T20 against Australia. Delhi Daredevils also bought Delhi all-rounder Pawan Negi for 8.5 crores. Pawan Negi, who played last year for Chennai Super Kings and snubbed for 8.5 crores to Delhi Daredevils. February 5, Negi selected for T20 World Cup and 6th February, he became the costliest Indian player at IPL Auction 2016.

Another huge price earned by South Africa’s Chris Morris. Morris appeared at a base price of just 50 lakhs, sparked a war between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders but at the end Delhi Daredevils bought him for 7 crores. Sun Risers Hyderabad also bought India’s left-hand bowler Ashish Nehra for 5.5 crores.

Usman Khawaja, who scored 2 hundreds and 2 fifties in just 4 games in Big Bash League BBL), still he unsold at the IPL Auction 2016. New Zealand’s opener Martin Guptill also unsold in the IPL Auction. Here is the list of Top 10 expensive players in IPL Auction 2016.

Carlos Brathwaite (DD) – 4.2 crore

Carlos Brathwaite was bought for  4.2 crore by Delhi Daredevils against his base price of just 1 crore. He played only two International matches for West Indies. Sparked a war between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils. Finally, KKR pulled of the bid and Carlos bought by Delhi. Carlos Brathwaite thanked DD on Twitter and tweeted his dibelief.

Deepak Hooda (SRH) – 4.2 crore

India’s uncapped player Deepak Hooda sold out to Sun Risers Hyderbad for 4.2 crores in the IPL Auction. His hard-hitting ability and consistent in scoring runs made him a perfect player in T20 format. Deepak Hooda played for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 8 season.

Murugan Ashwin (RPSG) – 4.5 crore

Murugan Ashwin is a leg-spinner who plays for Tamil Nadu. His base-price is 10 lakh, after a heavy war between many teams, Rising Pune Supergaints bought him for 4.5 crore. He has played in Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament which is held in this January and took 10 wickets at an economy of just 5.52.

Mitchell Marsh (RPSG) – 4.8 crore

The penultimate player in the all-rounders section is Australia’s Mitchell Marsh with a base price of Rs. 2 crore. Pune take the bid up to Rs. 4.8 crore before other teams decide not to make any further bids.

Ashish Nehra (SRH) – 5.5 crore

Ashish Nehra has been sold to the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2016 Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction. He has been one of the best Indian fast-bowlers till date. Ashish Nehra played for suspended Chennai Super Kings in IPL season 8.

Mohit Sharma (KXIP) – 6.5 crore

Mohit Sharma has been sold to the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the 2016 IPL Auction. Mohit Sharma’s base price is 1.5 crore and KXIP & RCB started to bid and continue to push high, past 4 crore. Finally, Mohit Sharma was bought by Kings XI Punjab for 4.2 crores.

Chris Morris (DD) – 7 crore

South Africa’s pace bowler Chris Morris sold for 7 crore in the Vivo IPL Auction 2016. Delhi Daredevils bought him in the bid. He played for Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore in previous editions.

Yuvraj Singh (SRH) – 7 crore

Yuvraj Singh was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for Rs 7 crore during the 2016 Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction. Yuvraj Singh played for Kings XI Punjab, Pune Warriors India and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the previous editions.

Pawan Negi (DD) – 8.5 crore

Delhi Daredevils also bought Delhi all-rounder Pawan Negi for 8.5 crores. Pawan Negi, who played last year for Chennai Super Kings and snubbed for 8.5 crores to Delhi Daredevils. February 5, Negi selected for T20 World Cup and 6th February, he became the costliest Indian player at IPL Auction 2016.

Shane Watson (RCB) – Rs 9.5 crore

Shane Watson sold for biggest price. Shane Watson appeared at a base rate of 2 crore and was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for 9.5 crores. Shane Watson played for Rojasthan Royals in previous editions.
