UK weather: Heavy rain and cold weather could dampen bonfire weekend | Weather News

Parts of the UK are set to be hit with more rain and colder temperatures over the bonfire weekend.

Forecasters say parts of the country will see rain during the day on Friday, before heavier, more widespread downpours over the weekend.

Temperatures will remain lower on Friday, before bands of rain move in from the west on Saturday, Aidan McGivern, of the Met Office, said.

Overnight rainfall could reach up to 30-40mm from Weymouth to Canterbury within a few hours.

The Met Office website said: “Rain spreading east on Saturday, after a chilly start in the east.

“Rain then lingering across southeast England on Sunday; sunshine and showers, locally heavy, elsewhere.”

The weekend’s forecast comes after a yellow thunderstorm warning was issued by the Met Office for southeast England until 6am on Friday.

It follows a week where parts of London saw more than half a month’s worth of rainfall in one night, as people woke on Thursday to downpours, flooded roads and transport problems.
