The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been seen at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in their first UK public appearance together since they quit as senior royals.

The royal couple were seen watching Trooping the Colour, the Queen’s birthday parade, from the Major General’s Office overlooking Horse Guards Parade.

Meghan was seen giving a playful shush to Mia and Lena Tindall, the young daughters of Zara and Mike Tindall, as she smiled in a wide-brimmed cream hat with navy ribbon.

She was then seen sharing a joke with Savannah Phillips, the daughter of Princess Anne’s son Peter Phillips and his ex-wife Autumn Kelly.

Harry and Meghan were also pictured chatting to the Duke of Kent, the Queen’s cousin, 86, who stood with her on the Buckingham Palace balcony to watch the final part of the Trooping the Colour.

Harry appeared to be wearing a suit instead of military uniform like his father and brother, after he was stripped of his honourary titles after quitting as a senior royal.

The couple and their two children flew to the UK from their home in California this week ahead of celebrations to mark the Queen’s 70-year reign.

The duke and duchess quit as working members of the Royal Family in January 2020 and said they would split their time between the UK and North America.

Their decision came after a long Christmas break on Vancouver Island in Canada, where they then remained for another two and a half months before moving to California.

The pandemic hit shortly after they made the decision and the couple have mainly remained in the United States.

During an interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, they said they had been forced to leave their roles because the Royal Family would not help with Meghan’s mental health as she struggled to deal with tabloid allegations.

The Queen has not yet met their second child, Lilibet, who is named after her, as the few times Harry and Meghan have come back to Europe they have left their children in the United States.

Sky News understands the Queen will meet Lilibet for the first time on Saturday instead of going to the Epsom Derby. It will be Lilibet’s first birthday.

Archie, Harry and Meghan’s eldest child, has not been in the UK since he was six months old.

Meghan has only been in the UK once since she and Harry moved to North America, while Prince Harry has made a few visits, including for the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral last year.

The couple stopped off for a day in April to visit the Queen on their way to the Invictus Games in the Netherlands.
