Rahul injured, Gautam Gambhir possible replacement for the Kolkata Test – Scooptimes

Lokesh Rahul suffered a right hamstring during India’s second innings in the Kanpur test against New Zealand. Rahul stayed out on the field after he was dismissed on 38 and the 12th man Dhawan fielded as a substitute.

According to the sources, Indian team coach Anil Kumble has asked for Gambhir to be called up as a back-up opener for the second test at Kolkata, which starts from September 30.

Gambhir failed to find his place in Indian test team since 2014 England tour and he underwent a fitness test in National cricket Academy (NCA) located in Bangalore and he has passed the fitness test. He might select for the second Test match against New Zealand as a replacement of KL Rahul.

Gambhir is in full form as he smashed four half-centuries, it includes 2 nervous 90’s in Duleep trophy. But, Virat Kohli may give another chance to Dhawan as Gambhir loathes a decent tuning with Virat Kohli. Gambhir played a lot of matches under Anil Kumble, so Kumble knows Gambhir’s power against spin. It is the reason why he might called.

BCCI will announce the official announcement soon. Stay here!
